Burdened By Higher Prices

deposit-locked_thumbJuly Results. The Consumer Confidence Index (CCI) lost more ground in July – its 1.3 percent decline means the CCI is now at a five-month low of 85.6. During the last few months, rising prices of basic foodstuffs have been a major concern for many consumers. And in the latest survey, as many as 70.4 percent of consumers cited rising foodstuff prices as a major concern. This is up significantly from just 57.4 percent of consumers who said the same thing in June.

Higher Food Prices Still Worry Consumers

IKKJakarta, July 5, 2010 – June Results. In June, the Consumer Confidence Index (CCI) declined 2.4 percent to 86.7, or its lowest level in the last four months. Sentiment was dented by higher foodstuff prices. More than 50% of consumers still claim to be burdened by high foodstuff prices. As such, consumers are less optimistic toward future economic conditions. Furthermore, more than 90% of consumers surveyed expect prices to be higher over the next six months.

Still Strong Despite Europe’s Debt Crisis

Despite the debt crisis in Europe, CEOs in Indonesia are increasingly upbeat on Indonesia’s economic prospects. In the latest survey which covers the months of April and May, the Business Sentiment Index (BSI), added 3.2 percent to 137.1.
